second grade stories

i love being a teacher if for nothing else than the pure innocent joy that the students bring to my life everyday. if i were to follow through with the plans and dream mom and i have of writing and publishing children's stories, now would be the time! i need to start keeping a journal of the all the "funnies" that the kiddos do and say.

the most recent event was a trip to the nature center in town on halloween. we saw an amusing puppet show that taught about different animals and water. they had the opportunity to view the "nature" through different viewing devices, check out animal bones and fur, then we took a nature walk around the pond. it was absolutely beautiful. my favorite sight was the pond and creek, of course, but also the big huge leafy trees. i love the sounds of a rippling creek and the sound of crunchy leaves and the sight of leaves flittering from their branch to the ground. signs of fall....colorado fall colors are nothing compared to the fall colors of iowa, or the midwest.

here are some pics from the trip.

seth and jeremiah checking out the giant leafy tree.
i had to resist the urge to revisit my childhood and not climb this tree.

i charged seth and jeremiah with the job of photographer.
i think they had more fun with the camera than anything else on the trip.

a picture of a deer..taken by seth.

jeremiah and seth taking a close up of themselves.
they are great buddies.

rachel and a few others rolling a log to see what kind of insects live there...there was a second grade shrill of "rolly polly"
rachel making tracks in the sand

rachel was so into the process of the hike and activities i could hardly get a picture of her with her face looking at or towards the camera. but this is a darling one.
