MeMo appears McTeacher Night

The Fountain McDonald's graciously hosted a fund raiser for Mesa Elementary. Teachers from our school volunteered to work shifts from 5-8 PM doing a variety of jobs. For the three hours worked, Measa Elementary earned 25% of the sales!!! I think we made around $600-$700!!! Stinkin' cool if you ask me!!!

Now you ask who or what is MeMo? MeMo is our school mascot (a mountain lion) taken from Mesa and Moutain Lion. Memo is loved by the students at Mesa (most know that it is me under the costume). The little tykes really get excited about Memo! If MeMo was ever lacking in hugs, he sure made up for it on McTeacher Night. Some of the kiddos could not get enough of hugging MeMo! Really quite darling!
Michael had got a few good chuckles out of me. I got dressed up and he drove me down to Fountain and visited for a while. Here area a few pics from that evening

second grade stories

i love being a teacher if for nothing else than the pure innocent joy that the students bring to my life everyday. if i were to follow through with the plans and dream mom and i have of writing and publishing children's stories, now would be the time! i need to start keeping a journal of the all the "funnies" that the kiddos do and say.

the most recent event was a trip to the nature center in town on halloween. we saw an amusing puppet show that taught about different animals and water. they had the opportunity to view the "nature" through different viewing devices, check out animal bones and fur, then we took a nature walk around the pond. it was absolutely beautiful. my favorite sight was the pond and creek, of course, but also the big huge leafy trees. i love the sounds of a rippling creek and the sound of crunchy leaves and the sight of leaves flittering from their branch to the ground. signs of fall....colorado fall colors are nothing compared to the fall colors of iowa, or the midwest.

here are some pics from the trip.

seth and jeremiah checking out the giant leafy tree.
i had to resist the urge to revisit my childhood and not climb this tree.

i charged seth and jeremiah with the job of photographer.
i think they had more fun with the camera than anything else on the trip.

a picture of a deer..taken by seth.

jeremiah and seth taking a close up of themselves.
they are great buddies.

rachel and a few others rolling a log to see what kind of insects live there...there was a second grade shrill of "rolly polly"
rachel making tracks in the sand

rachel was so into the process of the hike and activities i could hardly get a picture of her with her face looking at or towards the camera. but this is a darling one.

Working on the weekend

Our staffing room at schoool left much to be desired. Small and cold, with two big ugly chalkboards and bulky orangy-pink shelves. We spend a lot of time in this room meeting with teachers and parents, so Doris and I recruited Michael's help to empty it and paint it. This ontaking has been a two saturday endeavor. Finally, though, the have finished painting the room. When we get back next week we will hang decor and make it warm and inviting for the parents and for ourselves....Thank you Doris and Michael.

I was a dork and fortgot to take pics before we started all the work, but I did get a few of the almost finished room. I will uplaod them later....

Here are some pictures...Michael was not entirely willing to let me snap photos of him, but I will take what I can get.

Thank you, Michael, for your help,

the weather is getting ready for school too

The temperatures here have been absolutley wonderful! 70s and 80s. The evenings seem to be cooling off quicker and the early morning hours seem to stay cooler longer...The other morning Jane and I discussed the coincidence of the lower temperatures and start of school. It seems almost like the weather knows school is about to resume, so the temperatures drop in preperation for the fall. I reckon the temperatures will rise again soon, but I will enjoy it while it is here. I am sure all my family and friends out in the midwest loathe to hear me say things like this, as I am sure they are sweltering in the 90 and 100 degree temperatures and HIGH HIGH humidity!!!

Well, I reckon I should move onto another project...I will try to post some picures of school and maybe some of my students soon.
Love you all to pieces!
